IRIS is pleased to announce its recent participation in the local event, “Monomachi.” We hosted a workshop to share the joy of craftsmanship, which allowed us to directly connect with many visitors.

The event was a wonderful opportunity to deepen our ties with the local community. Moving forward, IRIS remains committed to contributing to society through craftsmanship. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended and helped make the event a success.

Earlier this month, the 22nd Japan Button Awards ceremony took place, highlighting the craftsmanship and imagination that keep the button industry thriving. Organised by the Japan Button Association, the competition has been running since 1989 and welcomes entries from designers, students and button lovers across Japan.

We’re delighted to share that Yuu Horiuchi of IRIS Co., Ltd. received the Grand Prix (Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award) for a stunning button design featuring delicate layers and a beautiful aurora-like gradation.

In the Paper Design Division, Hime Morita from Chubu Fashion College was awarded the Grand Prix for her creative and sustainable idea of reimagining bottle caps as buttons.

A big thank you to everyone who continues to bring new ideas and passion to the world of buttons.

IRIS strengthens its partnership with FC BASARA Mainz and celebrates their 3-0 victory in the recent test match. After the game, we shared the joy with Chairman Yamashita, Director Okazaki, and the players.

The buttons worn by the players are a symbol of IRIS and FC BASARA Mainz’s commitment to challenge and grow together. This button represents the partnership between the two, overcoming difficulties and believing in growth.

IRIS supports FC BASARA Mainz’s activities in Germany and aims for global expansion in the apparel industry. No challenge, no growth. Both aim high in their respective fields and make their names known to the world.

＜FC BASARA Mainz＞Basara Mainz is a Japanese-operated football club based in Mainz, Germany. Founded in 2014, the club achieved five consecutive promotions and currently competes in the German sixth league. In the 2024/25 season, Shinji Okazaki assumed the role of top team manager.

Award-winning works for the industry-academia collaboration project “Upcycle” decided.

To commemorate "Button Day" on November 22nd, we held a theme that would contribute to a sustainable society and connect button culture to the future.

This project, aimed at promoting resource utilization and fostering the next generation, involved the free provision of our inventory of B-grade stock, samples, and leftover buttons and parts from discontinued product lines for student projects.

Specifically, we offered students the opportunity to choose from two categories:

1. Reuse Buttons: These reuse buttons, made from repurposed materials, aim to contribute to a sustainable society and create new value from existing resources. Individual variations in color and finish give each piece a unique character.
2. Buttons and Parts for Student Projects: Fashion students were given the chance to select the perfect buttons and parts for their creations from three curated collections: “Small Button Collection,” “Eco-Friendly – BIOMASS -,” and “Eco-Friendly – RECYCLE -.”

I created this piece because I was interested in environmentally friendly buttons.I’m from the Philippines and I love the sea, so I chose the “Nut button” which is related to the sea. the ”fishing net recycle button”, “shell button”, and “coconut buttons”. The knit is inspired by the sea.

Ashikaga Design & Beauty College and IRIS CO.,LTD. Implement Industry-Academia Collaboration Project to Provide Buttons.

We were pleased to collaborate with the Ashikaga Design & Beauty College Fashion Design Department on their “Limited Store” event held at AEON Mall Ota on Saturday, November 9th and Sunday, November 10th.

We provided buttons and parts to three participating student brands: Le Sucre Moi, Liberrty zone, and Lit.Each brand team was responsible for the entire process, from merchandise planning (MD) and product creation to sales.

We are pleased to announce the renewal of our Higg FEM (Facility Environmental Module) verification for our production facilities in Bangladesh and the Philippines.

The Higg FEM is an environmental performance assessment tool developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), which comprehensively evaluates environmental impact at the facility level, including energy consumption, water usage, waste, and chemical management.

This verification renewal is a result of the evaluation of our following initiatives and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to sustainability.

We are actively working to reduce our environmental impact to help realize a sustainable society. We will continue to utilize various tools, including the Higg FEM, to continuously improve our environmental performance.

As part of their industry-academia collaboration efforts, the Shinagawa Joshi Gakuin Clothing Club, along with Crop Ozaki, visited our museum to support their acquisition of knowledge related to clothing for the school’s cultural festival.

During their visit, we provided a lecture on buttons, explanations of the exhibits, and a kurumi button (fabric-covered button) workshop. We also incorporated quizzes about buttons to make the experience engaging and enjoyable while learning about the history and culture of clothing.

The students listened attentively to the lecture, observed the exhibits with great interest, and created a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere.

We are committed to continuing our button culture contribution activities in various forms while strengthening our partnerships with the local community and our business partners.

OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 (STANDARD100 by OEKO-TEX®) is the world’s highest safety level, covering more than 350 types of hazardous substances, and is certified by 18 certification bodies mainly in Europe. This certifies that textile-related materials and products do not contain harmful chemicals.

Regulatory value standards vary depending on the safety level, and this time we have obtained the strictest standard value, Class I (products that come into contact with infants and toddlers).

75% of the materials handled by the all IRIS Group, both domestic and overseas, are OEKO-TEX® certified.

We strive to maintain and improve trust through product safety certifications so that our products can be used safely and securely.

Shanghai IRIS Co., Ltd. has obtained “GRS/RCS certification”. Recently, IRIS CO., LTD.’s overseas subsidiary “Shanghai IRIS CO., LTD. (Shanghai IRIS Clothing Materials CO., LTD.)” has been certified as a company with established traceability (tracking management) in consideration of society and the environment. In December, we acquired the international environmental certification programs GRS (Global Recycled Standard) and RCS (Recycled Claim Standard). Based on the philosophy of SDGs, the IRIS Group will continue to actively promote product and technology development that utilizes environmentally friendly raw materials, including recycled materials from Japan and overseas, leading to the popularization and establishment of sustainable products and promoting the widespread use of sustainable products.
